On its 10-year anniversary of winning the NAIA Football Championship, the unbeaten 1996 USF Football Team was inducted into the USF Athletics Hall of Fame. Directed by legendary head football coach Bob Young, the 1996 team won a championship through of hard work, resilience and a sense of family. The championship helped forge a winning tradition at USF and the football program. The 1996 squad rolled to a 14-0 record, including playing 12 road games, while averaging 45 points per game. The Cougars were 6-0 in winning the SDIC. In total five student-athletes were named All-American with the team setting 14 team records, 24 individual marks and four NAIA individual records.  In the championship, the Offensive Player of the Game Kurtiss Riggs completed 25-of-33 passes for 431 yards and five TDs as USF rolled to a 47-25 victory, breaking rom a 27-13 halftime lead with a 14-0 third quarter. Travis Dumke was named the Defensive Player of the Year with six tackles, including two for loss.
