A two-year ace (1980-81) for the Sioux Falls Cougars, Baas of Iowa City, Iowa, led the NAIA in both earned run average (0.92) and innings pitched (98) in 1980. One of the best in school history, Baas set records for wins in a season (8), career wins (16), innings pitched in a season (98) and innings in a career (175). He was a two-time All-SDIC selection (1980, 1981). In addition, he was a two-time NAIA District 12 first team selection (1980, 1981).
Baas, who attended Southwestern CC in 1979 before transferring to Sioux Falls, was also very active in SFC intramurals and officiated adult basketball games for the Sioux Falls YMCA.
