Bio

Laura Johnson started her career at USF with the 2010-2011 Women’s Basketball team. A native of Cedar Falls, IA, Johnson was a McDonald’s All-American nominee as well as a first team all-state, all-metro and all-conference athlete before carrying her success to USF in 2010.

Transitioning into college basketball, Johnson continued her same success for the Cougars as a freshman. She was named the 2011 GPAC Freshman of the Year as well as honorable mention to the 2011 NAIA All-American award. She led the team in scoring, rebounds and steals with 10.3 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game and 41 steals on the season. She shot for 43% from the field and 37% behind the arc while tallying 340 points on the season.

In 2013, Johnson set the USF single-season record for free throws made by shooting 86.8% from the line. She also averaged 13.3 points per game while collecting NSIC First Team All-Conference honors. To round out her career with the Cougars, she led the team in minutes played (985), blocked shots (58), rebounds (241), 3-pointers made (75) and points (436) during the 2014 season.

Following her graduation in 2014, Johnson went on to play professional basketball in the United States Global Women’s Basketball Association (GWBA) as well as in Spain and Albania. She helped lead her team to an Albanian Championship during the 2021-2022 season where she was named the league’s Most Valuable Player.

Johnson graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in biology and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and currently resides in Cedar Falls, IA where she is an elementary school teacher at Waterloo Christian School in Waterloo, IA.
