Joel Running played basketball for the Cougars after transferring from South Dakota State University.
Throughout his sophomore year with USF, he averaged 11.62 points per game scoring 314 points and collecting 200 rebounds. Running entered his junior season picking up where he left off tallying 391 points and 245 rebounds while shooting for 49.7% from the field which ultimately sparked his standout senior campaign.
Running helped lead the Cougars to a South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference (SDIC) title in 1984 and scored a career high of 618 points and collected 260 rebounds. While averaging 21.1 points per game, Running earned himself All-SDIC honors during his final year with the Cougars. He graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in health & physical education.
Following his career with USF, Running played professionally in Norway where he averaged over 25 points per game. He currently sits at 11th all-time in career point for USF with 1,323, and 9th in career rebounds with 705.
Running currently resides in Crosslake, MN with his wife Lois where he works as an Executive for A&B Business Solutions. Together they have two sons Lee (Julia) and Brodie.
