Originally of Bradenton, Florida, Hiatt was a dominant middle hitter and four-year starter for USF. From 1993-96, she finished her career second on USF's career kills list with 1,141 and ranked second at USF in career blocks with 517.
She had two of the top-five kills per season marks at USF with 387 in 1996 and 356 in 1995. By the time she left USF, her kills average per game of 3.21 in 1995 was third all-time and her 1996 mark of 2.93 ranked fourth in school history. Hiatt set a school mark with 174 blocks in 1996. Hiatt also left school ranking second in digs for a season with 656 in 1994. She was named to two all-conference teams while at USF.
Before coming to campus at USF, she prepped at Bradenton Christian HS in Bradenton, Florida. An all-state and all-conference honoree, Hiatt was named to the Junior Olympic team by USFA, and Player of the Year by Bradenton Herald as a senior.
She earned a degree in elementary education in 1997 from USF. Stephanie and husband Jon, Vice President for Principal Gifts and University Relations at USF, have three children,Tyler, Caleb and Lucas, and live in Sioux Falls.
