A 1983 graduate of the University of Sioux Falls, Hansen was one of the best punters in not only USF school history but in the area. A native of Hawarden, Iowa, Hansen earned four letters in football from 1979-83. Twice he was named NAIA Division II All American (1982, 1982). He was twice named All-NAIA District 12 and All-SDIC first team in 1981 and 1982. At USF, Hansen set eight punting records, including a long of 84 yards. Hansen was a ninth round selection of the New Orleans Saints in the 1984 NFL Draft. He played 15 seasons in the NFL with the Saints, New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, and Washington Redskins. He was named to the Pro Bowl as a member of the Saints in 1984. After retiring from the NFL in 1999, he joined the FCA in Sioux Falls, SD.
