Bio

Garry, a track and football standout for the Cougars from 1969-72, was an accomplished coach and administrator at the high school level in South Dakota.

A three-time all-Tri-State Conference football standout, he finished his career with 14 interceptions, which ranks 7th all-time at USF. Originally of Garretson, S.D., Garry was a USF team captain and named the team MVP in 1970, 1971 and 1972. In 1971-72, he was named to the All District 12 NAIA Football Team. He set a school record with 99-yard interception return for a TD in a 44-6 USF win vs. Concordia St. Paul in 1972.

Also a standout on the track, he was a team captain and part of the 1973 Tri-State Conference team champions. While at USF he was named the USF Collegiate Honor Athlete in 1973 and a Purple Feather Academic Award recipient. Garry, who earned a B.A. in history education in 1973 from USF, was a teacher and coach at Miller HS (1973-77), Lennox HS (1977-85), S.F. Lincoln (1985-2007) and Sioux Falls Christian (2007-present). In 1982, he directed Lennox High School to the Class A Football State Championship, earning Coach of the Year honors from the SDHSAA. In 2007, Garry directed the Sioux Falls Christian girls to the Class A Track and Field Championship, also earning SDHSAA Coach of the Year honors.

Bob and his wife Shirley Winterton Garry had three married sons include Kirby (Jody) of Marina, Calif; Kelly (Alisa) of Boulder, Colo; and Kristopher (Kelly) of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. He also has six grandchildren.
