Bio

In 1982, the 13-member team, which was also directed by Head Coach Sherry Halleen, won the league with a 12-2 record and finished 14-11 overall. Early in the season, team captain Julie Hoag said when the team was 2-0: “I don’t think the conference championship is out of reach.” Prophetic no doubt. USF finished the regular season with a 7-0 lead mark.

After regular season play, the team played in the SDIC’s round-robin tourney to determine the conference champion. USF lost to Black Hills State and South Dakota Tech but defeated Dakota Wesleyan, South Dakota Springfield, Dakota State, Yankton, and Huron, to clinch the league title. USF’s season ended when they lost in the District 12 Tournament to Montana Tech and Dickinson State, but this team put together a memorable run.

1982 team members included Lisa Brommer, Tina Clark, Meredith (Carstensen) DeCou, Tracy Eagen, Dena Garvin, Renee Gillespie, Julie (Hoag) Griffin, Jill (Johnson) Huber, Teresa (Deutsch) Johnson, Kim Lems, Linda Olson, Shelley (Fauth) Skinner, and Debora (O’Dell) Smith.
